The main differences between Laser and Pulsed light hair removal, lie in the technology that each use to generate the light. Laser machines produce a single wavelength of light for example 808 nm (pure light consisting of one single color and form), which has a very concentrated beam and specific target (in this case the melanin in hair follicle). Pulsed light machines use a wave band for example 640-1200nm. Laser hair removal machines are tuned to emit the exact wavelength required to treat the specific chromospheres in the hair, so lasers can create more heat directed at the hair follicle than pulsed light (IPL) systems, therefore achieving better results. Since heat is absorbed by the follicle and not the skin, there is a decreased risk of burning. Thus making hair removal lasers a safer option for darker skinned individuals.
